What is Breast Implant Surgery?

Breast Implant Surgery, or Boob Job or Breast Augmentation Surgery, is performed to give women fuller and more rounded breasts.  It is popular among women who have lost breast volume because of weight loss or after childbirth and breast feeding. It is also performed for breast cancer patients who have undergone mastectomy surgery, to reconstruct their breasts.

How is Breast Implant Surgery done?

Breast Implant Surgery is performed either by a fat transfer procedure to increase the volume of breasts or by making incisions and inserting silicone gel or saline filled implants to increase the size of breasts. Depending on the patient's requirements they can be inserted above or underneath the muscle tissue of the breast and be inserted through incisions made underneath the breast or under the armpit.  The surgeon should explain the benefits of each type of procedure.

Mr Khan and his Team are amazing!! I did a lot of research for my Tummy Tuck, I looked at surgeons nationwide and I even looked at the celebrity; clinic in Turkey. I looked at Mr Khans clinic and decided to contact them. After my initial meeting with Mr Khan I knew I had made the right choice. I had wanted this surgery for many years following 3 C-Sections, it was a life long dream and Mr Khan understood this fully. He instinctively knew the look I was trying to achieve and he was honest and realistic about the results obtainable and he explained everything. I have previously had dentistry work and surgery in India and I needed aftercare but due to the distance I couldn't go, so this was one of the important reasons for staying in the UK for my Tummy Tuck. After the surgery I did develop some issues, typical of me, and the aftercare service I received was phenomenal! I was given high tech equipment and I was seen in the clinic every few days until I was fully recovered. This service is invaluable and I am so grateful I didn't go overseas. The clinic itself, including the wards and the theatre, is clean, modern and welcoming. Even the car parking is easy to use! Mr Khan and his team have changed my life. My dream has come true and I have a wonderful long-awaited tummy and perfect shape. My husband, children and family have noticed the lift this has had on my spirits. I am more active and I enjoy more outdoor activities and I also love being able to wear whatever clothes I like and not be disappointed with my reflection! I have recently had a basal cell carcinoma removed from my face and a graft done. (Mr Small had completed a similar procedure on my nose in 2019.) Everything was explained upfront and the procedure carried out at my first visit. His expertise is second to none. In fact, from reception right through to the nursing staff and surgical team, you are made to feel welcome and valued. I was an NHS referral on both occasions, but this made no difference to my treatment, it was first class. I am currently having to follow up checks by the nursing team and later, a follow-up phone consultation with the plastic surgeon is scheduled.

Breast Implants  
Breast augmentation is the term used to describe the surgical technique of enlarging the breast by inserting implants behind the breast. The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts 1½ hours and requires 1 night in hospital. There are a number of different shapes, sizes and types of implant, all of which can give excellent results and which are ultimately chosen on an individual basis. The operation entails making a 5 cm incision on the underside of the breast and making a space for the implant either beneath the breast tissue or beneath the muscle on which the breast lies. The wound is then sutured with dissolving stitches and covered with simple dressings.
Breast Lift  
A mastopexy (breast uplift procedure) is an operation performed to tighten the skin of the breasts, make the breasts look and feel firmer and place the nipples in a higher, more youthful position.  It is performed under a general anaesthetic and the operation takes 2 hours and requires a hospital stay of 2 days. There are different technical ways the operation can be carried out depending on a number of individual factors including the starting shape of the breast and this determines the extent and location of the incisions and resultant scars on the breast. The excess skin is excised and the breast tissue tightened with stitches. In addition, a reduction in the diameter of the areola (the pink/brown part of the nipple complex) is usually required. The nipple is moved to a higher, more youthful position and the wounds are stitched with dissolving sutures, and covered with light dressings. The resultant scars depend on the exact techniques employed and vary from only a circular scar around the new nipple/areoalar complex, to additional scars such as a vertical scar passing from the nipple to underneath the breast. In some individuals, it is necessary to have an additional long curved scar passing in the breast fold. It is important to realise that a mastopexy procedure does not alter the size/volume of the breast. but rather its shape. The procedure can be combined with breast augmentation using an implant if an increase in breast size is also desired.
Fat Transfer  
During the procedure, the donor area for harvesting fat is prepared in a similar fashion to performing liposuction. The fat is harvested using a special suction cannula so it is not damaged. it is then centrifuged to allow separation of the intact healthy fat cells from those that have damaged. The live fat cells are then injected in the treatment areas using a very fine cannula to place tiny amounts of fat in tunnels which are carefully built up to form layers which restore volume and shape. Between 50% and 60% of the transferred fat survves. This means a certain amount of overcorrection is required which also contributes to some of the swelling following surgery. Fat transfer is often performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures such as a facelift.

Over the past few years, I have seen Safae and Sarah at the clinic for my aesthetic treatments, I cannot recommend either of them enough. If you are considering laser hair removal, definitely book yourself in. After the first session, I could see results and after going back every six weeks my treatment is complete and I could not be happier! My only problem is that I wish I started the treatment sooner! I have also had a peel with Sarah which left my skin refreshed and super smooth!
