Mrs Deirdre Ferguson
Job Title:
Physiotherapist Biography:
I am an accredited psychotherapist with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).
I qualified from Dublin Business School in 2008 with a Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and got my accreditation with the I.A.C.P. in 2011. Since then I have worked in different counselling centers and private practices. I have been building on my experience and my ability to sit with people, with different life traumas and painful experiences. I have learned so much from these people and their experiences and I have learned to follow the client at his/her pace and move away from having an expectation of what therapy and growth should be for that client. Therapy is directed by the client and for the client's needs and desires. So I allow the client to lead and I make myself available to follow.
As a therapist I must continuously develop my skills and capacity to sit with clients in their anguish and pain. I attend courses and workshops to keep me fresh and alive in my work. I have become very interested in the body's role in holding onto painful memories and how the body can inform us of what is really going on for ourselves. I like to help the client focus on their thoughts as well as how they are experiencing themselves in that present moment. I believe also that I need to be able to understand, process and integrate my own emotions and life experiences and go for my own counselling to do this. I do believe that I need to be able to help myself before I can help others.
