Psychotherapist Consultation
I incorporate a Person-Centered approach. The person-centered approach views the person as their own best authority on their own experience. I also adopt when required a Psychodynamic approach. Psychodynamic psychotherapy considers that people repress past traumatic experiences, which can affect their personalities and behaviors in relationships.  The goal of talking to a counsellor / psychotherapist is to help you make sense of what is going on in your life. Reflecting on your past experiences and how they impact on the present, can help you understand the person you are today. I believe in the strength and courage of anyone seeking therapy and facing their struggles head-on. Counselling can give time and an opportunity to develop insight and understanding of how you exist in your world and explore aspects of your life that may be inhibiting personal growth and can provide new ways to move forward. This insight is what can make change possible as our patterns of behaviour are explored and understood and as a consequence make it easier to make new choices and decisions. I understand that the counselling work can be challenging but for most people counselling is a life changing, positive experience that creates greater self-awareness and understanding of our world. As part of my practice I receive ongoing supervision to maintain well-informed, ethical practice. I am also committed to my own continual professional development and regularly attend courses and training forums, alongside reading relevant literature, research and articles as a means of keeping my counselling skills up to date.

Building Bridges Counselling and Psychotherapy - General Practice in Ireland

Building Bridges Counselling and Psychotherapy

39 Linnetfields Square, Clonee, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15
5.0 from 1 verified review
Making the decision to find a counsellor can be a difficult task, whether it is your first time or you are returning back to counselling. It can be a huge step in itself, as you may be experiencing a number of feelings, such as: what if I look silly, what if my problems seem unimportant or what if I don't know where to start? This is normal; honestly do not let this stop you. Please don't hesitate to call me and ask any questions, and then decide if you would like to come along to a free consultation? It's my belief that we all have our own answers to our difficulties and sometimes all we need is a safe place to explore our concerns. Also there are times when the ones closest to us aren't the best people to discuss our concerns, as our relationships with family and friends can often be the source of our distress. At Building Bridges I provide  a safe caring, non-judgemental and supportive space which allows people to explore issues within their life that are presently causing distress. Therapists use different approaches and interventions to suit the requirements of the client. The goal within the therapeutic relationship is help the client work towards making more positive choices.

Plan A Visit On planning a visit some clients have suggested the following concerns: 1.       Stress is getting the best of me, and it is getting harder to concentrate on work, family, and relationships 2.       Intense feelings and thoughts make it difficult for me to concentrate and focus on what’s important. 3.       I try, but I’m struggling to find the answers. 4.       I am standing on the threshold of becoming "all that I can be" and I don't have a clue about how to take the first step. 5.       I am having trouble making decisions; family and friends run my life. 6.       I don't fit in and don't know how to get past hello with new acquaintances. 7.       So much has changed, and I no longer know who I am. 8.       I worry a lot about my weight; I am preoccupied with food. 9.       I am my own worst enemy.  I don't treat myself well, and I question whether I should even exist. 10.   The "unspeakable" has happened, and I need to get past it. These are some concerns clients present with when attending Building Bridges. Could not recommend enough to anyone dealing with anything similarPadraig, Ireland, 21 06 23

I had been suffering from anxiety and anger issues due to years of swallowing emotions. Martina provided a safe and trusting space that helped me work through this. I felt at ease with her from day one and she was very patient with helping me open up and deal with my issues. It was a lot of work but I am in a much better place now thanks to Martina and the work that we put in. Could not recommend enough to anyone dealing with anything similar or feeling like everything is piling on top of them.

Tricia Pugh - General Practice in Ireland

Tricia Pugh

Oscailt, No.8 Pembroke Road, Dublin, 4
I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and in particular relish the aspect of helping people in times of need to find their way. I have a background in nursing and have always worked in a caring profession. My aim is to support others with life’s challenges and to help them return to a state of well-being. The approach I use is ‘Pluralistic’ whereby I exercise a number of different therapies such as Reality, Humanistic and Cognitive. I select from the different therapies those which are appropriate to my client’s unique needs. I believe that by looking at our behaviours and thoughts in therapy can enable empowerment and change. Such change can help us to get what we want and where we want to be. I believe therapy can help one to develop increased self-awareness and improve confidence, thus enabling the person to make choices that can create a more satisfying life. I use and perceive mindfulness as part of the here and now in therapy which I feel can assist in the unfolding of enlightenment.  I aspire to provide each of my clients with a safe, supportive, non-judging trusting environment. My qualifications include: BA (Hons) Psychology, Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour, Diploma in Professional Relaxation Therapy,Cert.Mindfulness.
