Allan Jones basic dental training was at Guys Hospital where he graduated as a dentist in 1983. On leaving Guys he went into General Dental Practice working as an associate in a busy NHS family practice.
In 1985 he joined the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Greenwich District Hospital as a House Officer and two years later he was appointed as a Registrar in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After this post he went on to Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry to embark on a three year postgraduate orthodontic training programme.
In 1989 he was awarded a Master of Science degree in Orthodontics from the University of London and a diploma in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 1990 he gained his membership in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of Dental Surgery Gold Medal. Following qualification he became a lecturer at Kings College Hospital and undertook a year of research and teaching.
In 1992 he was appointed Senior Registrar in Orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London and also at Mayday University Hospital, Croydon. In 1995 he was appointed as a Consultant at Kingston Hospital, Queen Marys University Hospital, Roehampton and holds a honorary Consultant and Senior Lecturer post at the Eastman Dental Institute, London.
He is a member of the British and European Orthodontic Societies, the British Dental Association, an International Member of the American Association of Orthodontists and also a member of the World Federation of Orthodontists.
His orthodontic interests are very varied and include functional appliances as well as many of the multi-disciplinary aspects of orthodontics.
