The most common use of bone grafting is in the application of , in order to restore the  area of a missing tooth. Dental implants require bones underneath them for support and to  properly into the mouth. People who have been  (without teeth) for a prolonged period may not have enough bone left in the necessary locations. In this case, bone can be taken from the chin or from the pilot holes for the implants or even from the iliac crest of the pelvis and inserted into the mouth underneath the new implant.In general, bone grafts are either used en block (such as from the chin or the ascending ramus area of the lower jaw) or particulated, in order to be able to adapt it better to a defect.

Gold is the most biocompatible non-toxic material used in dentistry today. It is non-corrosive and hypo-allergenic. Golds wear rates and coefficient of thermal expansion is very similar to enamel, and thus achieves a better natural fit. Gold margins do not break or chip even when thinned and polished. As mentioned before, less tooth structure is removed when preparing teeth for gold, which leaves the tooth stronger and healthier. 

The greatest advantage of using gold is its longevity, which can actually make it LESS costly in the long run. Gold easily outlasts other materials three to five times longer. When describing other materials, dentists talk in terms of years of service. When talking about gold, we speak in terms of decades of service. This idea is not lost on discerning patients and it is a huge motivating factor for them to select gold. 

For cast gold and gold foil restorations to achieve decades of service, they must be placed with the highest levels of skill and precision, so it is important to seek a dentist who has quality experience with the required techniques. Using RV Tucker techniques can produce a "margin" so tight that the gap next to the gold crown is less than the diameter of the bacteria that can cause future decay and damage after the crown is complete!!

Mini dental implants (MDIs) are small diameter dental implants.

Dental implants may be split into two separate categories based on the diameter of the device. Small diameter dental implants, most often referred to as ‘Mini Implants’, are those with a diameter less than three millimeters (3mm.) Likewise, standard or conventional implants are those implants larger than 3mm in diameter, but most commonly 4- 5mm. As a rule of thumb, Mini Dental Implants are at least half the price of conventional implants and sometimes a quarter of the price of conventional implants.[1][2]

Mini dental implants, or MDIs, are sometimes referred to as SDIs (small diameter implants), as well as NDIs (narrow body implants). Although mini dental implant is actually a trade name for the most widely used small diameter implant, the 3M™ ESPE™ MDI Mini Dental Implant, the dental industry has adopted the term to describe this class of implants. Some small diameter implants are used as anchors in orthodontic cases and are called TADs, or temporary attachment devices. One example of a TAD is the Unitek™ Temporary Anchorage Device System. These differ from the more common mini dental implants in that they are removed after they are no longer needed and orthodontic treatment is completed.

A removable partial denture (RPD) is for a partially  dental patient who desires to have replacement teeth for functional or aesthetic reasons, and who cannot have a  (a fixed partial denture) for any number of reasons, such as a lack of required teeth to serve as support for a bridge (i.e. distal abutments) or due to financial limitations.

The reason why this type of prosthesis is referred to as a removable partial denture is because patients can remove and reinsert them when required without professional help. Conversely, a "fixed" prosthesis can and should be removed only by a dental professional.

A dental extraction (also referred to as exodontia) is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to render the tooth non-restorable. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.

Surgical extraction is needed in case if the teeth cannot be easily seen. These teeth might either not have come up yet or might have broken off in such a way that half of the teeth still remains in the gum line. In order to see and to remove such a tooth, the dentist or the oral surgeon will have to cut and then pull the gums back.

Surgical extraction procedures are usually done by the oral surgeons. These procedures are conducted under local anesthesia (given as injections) and you may also opt for conscious sedation. Patients with medical complications and children are given general anesthesia. In case of a surgical extraction, the dentist must make an incision in the gum in order to locate the tooth.

In critical cases, the tooth will be cut into pieces and then removed.

If you are getting a tooth extraction and you are to receive a conscious sedation, you might also be given steroids in the IV line to help lessen the swelling caused after the surgery.

If you need to remove all the four wisdom teeth, you have to get it done at the same time. The topmost teeth can be easily removed, but the lower ones might prove to be difficult.

The structural loss typically results from caries or external trauma. It is also lost intentionally during tooth preparation to improve the aesthetics or the physical integrity of the intended restorative material. Dental restoration also refers to the replacement of missing tooth structure that is supported by dental implants.

Dental restorations can be divided into two broad types: direct restorations and indirect restorations. All dental restorations can be further classified by their location and size. A root canal filling is a restorative technique used to fill the space where the dental pulp normally resides.

Temporary fillings are used under the following circumstances:

1. For fillings that require more than one appointment - for example, before placement of gold fillings and for certain filling procedures (called indirect fillings) that use composite materials
2. Following a root canal
3. To allow a tooths nerve to "settle down" if the pulp became irritated
4. If emergency dental treatment is needed (such as to address a toothache)

Temporary fillings are just that; they are not meant to last. They usually fall out, fracture, or wear out within 1 month. Be sure to contact your dentist to have your temporary filling replaced with a permanent one. If you dont, your tooth could become infected or you could have other complications

A root canal is the space within the root of a tooth. It is part of a naturally occurring space within a tooth that consists of the pulp chamber (within the coronal part of the tooth), the main canal(s), and more intricate anatomical branches that may connect the root canals to each other or to the surface of the root.At the center of a tooth is a hollow area that houses soft tissues, such as the nerve, blood vessels, and connective tissue. This hollow area contains a relatively wide space in the coronal portion of the tooth called the pulp chamber.These canals run through the center of the roots like pencil lead through the length of a pencil. The pulp receives nutrition through the blood vessels and sensory nerves carry signals back to the brain.

Similar to the first premolar in coronal morphology, thesecond premolar varies mainly in root form. Its crown is narrower in thebuccal-palatal dimension and slightly wider in the mesial-distal. The canalorifice is centrally located but often appears more as a slot than as a singleovoid opening. When the slot-shaped opening appears, the clinician must assumethat the tooth has two canals until proved otherwise. The basic outline of thetooth is slightly ovoid but wider from mesial to distal than the outline of thefirst premolar. All caries and leaking restorations must be removed andreplaced with a suitable temporary restoration. Radicular morphology maypresent two separate canals, two canals anastomosing to a single canal, or twocanals with interconnections or "webbing." Accessory and lateralcanals may be present, but less often than in incisors. Vertucci and associatesstated that 75% of maxillary second premolars in their study had one canal atthe apex, 24% had two foramina, and 1% had three foramina. Of the teeth studied,59.5% had accessory canals. These clinicians also reported that when two canalsjoin into one, the palatal canal frequently exhibits a straight-line access tothe apex. They further pointed out that "if, on the direct periapicalexposure, a root canal shows a sudden narrowing, or even disappears, it meansthat at this point the canal divides into two parts, which cither remainseparate (type V) or merge (type II) before reaching the apex." The rootlength of the maxillary second molar is much like that of the first premolar;and apical curvature is not uncommon, particularly with large sinus cavities.After endodontic treatment, full occlusal coverage is mandatory to ensureagainst vertical cuspal or crown-root .
