Professor Dr Gunta Ancane is the head of the clinic and the department of psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy of RSU, a professor and also a practicing psychotherapist at the clinic, active creator of speciality of psychosomatic/ psychotherapy in Latvia, member of the board of the Latvian Medical Association (LAB), member of the board of the European Medical Association and president of the European Association of Psychosomatic Medicine. In 1979 Professor Dr Gunta Ancane has graduated with honours from the Riga Medical Institute. In 1986, under the guidance of gastroenterologist Prof. Nikolajs Skuja and psychiatrist Prof. Imants Eglitis she developed and presented her doctoral thesis in two medical specialities - internal diseases and psychiatry, thus launching psychosomatic medicine research in Latvia. In parallel with the scientific and educational work in Riga Stradinš University Professor Dr Gunta Ancane has over 30 years long experience of practical work. The Head of the Psychosomatic Clinic is the author of 37 scientific papers, 49 conference abstracts, 9 methodological and teaching aids and 8 inventions. In 2009, Professor Dr Gunta Ancane was awarded Silver Mark of the Latvian Medical Association, in 2013 - Badge of Honour of the Latvian Medical Association for outstanding achievements in medicine.

Docent Dr Andrejs Ancans - the author of the 64 scientific publications and 5 inventions - is one of the most experienced psychotherapists at the RSU Psychosomatic Clinic. During his studies and further scientific research Doc. Dr Ancans paid special attention to the pathophysiology, particularly to the diagnostics of gastric secretion disorders. As the logical follow-up the studies of the causes of diseases were followed by an in-depth learning of psychotherapy (psychodynamic group psychotherapy and group analysis, psychodynamic assessment, etc.) gaining and perfecting his knowledge both in Latvia and abroad. Doc. Dr Ancans works as a psychotherapist since 1998, currently at the Psychosomatic Clinic as well. For many years Doc. Dr Ancans has worked as a lecturer at the Riga Stradinš University delivering his knowledge to the future professionals thus contributing to the education of the young specialists of Latvia and increasing the prestige of the RSU in the eyes of foreign students and colleagues.

Dr Arturs Utinans - a psychotherapist, a lecturer and an author - has graduated from Medical Academy of Latvia, has specialized in psychiatry and has mastered psychoanalytic psychotherapy. In addition Dr Utinans has mastered matters of evolutionary psychology and psychiatry, psychoanalytic theory, psychodynamic diagnostics, new religious movements, cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal psychotherapy. Dr Utinans is the author or co-author of several books and more than 10 publications in Latvian and English. The psychotherapist is involved in research on prevalence of magical and critical thinking.

Dr Inga Petersone - a psychotherapist at the Psychosomatic Clinic - is dedicated doctor thanks to the establishment of the clinic, its goals and the work of the professional medical team. Dr Petersone emphasizes the need to collaborate in order to provide patient care with joint efforts not only of doctors of various fields, but also of representatives of other professions. Dr Petersone has graduated from the Medical Faculty of Medical Academy of Latvia and has undergone postgraduate training in psychotherapy at Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy Centre. In additional she has mastered specialization course in psychodynamic psychotherapy at Postgraduate Education Faculty of Medical Academy of Latvia and has undergone second level course in psychodynamic psychotherapy at Latvian Association of Psychotherapists. She has mastered psychiatry at the RSU Postgraduate Education Faculty and psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine and psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine at the RSU Faculty of Continuing Education.
