Ms Jeanie Chu
is a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Resilienz Clinic. She obtained her Joint
Master of Clinical Psychology Degree from the National University of
Singapore and University of Melbourne.
Previously,
Jeanie was a psychologist in the Clinical and Forensic Psychology
Services with the Ministry of Social and Family Development. In her
prior role, she provided psychological assessments and individual/group
psychotherapy to children and families with emotional and behavioural
problems arising from trauma and abuse. She also has training and
experience in forensic assessments with juveniles. In addition to
clinical work, she was a key member of the project team within the
Ministry that pioneered the development and oversaw the implementation
of the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment tool within
the child welfare system. Given her broad expertise, Jeanie has
collaborated and also provided numerous consultations to other mental
health professionals in Singapore.
Jeanie
has extensive experience working with individuals in hospital settings
where she conducted psychological assessments and therapy for children,
adults and elderly who suffered from a variety of medical conditions
with psychological and/or cognitive issues. Her past clientele in the
hospital settings include individuals who suffered from anxiety
(general, health-related, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety,
and specific phobia etc.), depression, eating disorder, self-harm,
schizophrenia, interpersonal issues, behavioural issues (e.g., anger and
violence), developmental issues and learning difficulties (attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia).
Having
played various roles in diverse settings, Jeanie is competent in
working with her clients individually and facilitating joint sessions
(e.g., with couples, parent-child and families).
Jeanie
adopts an eclectic approach to interventions based on the each
individual’s needs. She utilises a range of evidence-based techniques in
her approach to intervention including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy
(EFT), Structural Family Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Jeanie
believes in engaging her clients at their own comfort level and pace,
and conducting sessions in a safe therapeutic environment. She also
hopes to empower her clients by leveraging their abilities, maximising
their potential to build resilience as well as to work collaboratively
with them to enhance their emotional awareness and improve their overall
mental well-being. Her vast experience in different roles allows her to
identify critical issues and customize her approach to the needs of her
clients.
