Job Title: Physiotherapist Biography: Pete was born in 1962 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire where he was actively involved in many sports and exercise activities. In 1980 Pete joined the forces where he continued to actively participate in sporting competition before leaving in 1992 to undertake a Sports Science degree at Chelsea College of Sports Science.... part of the University of Brighton. During this time Pete offered Sports Science Support to West Ham United, an association which would continue later in his career. Pete left Brighton with a 1st class degree and was subsequently offered study opportunities within Sports Science to PhD level at 2 leading academic institutions. However, after great deliberation Pete decided to widen his horizons by taking up the offer to study at Glasgow Caledonian University where he attained an MSc with Distinction in Rehabilitation Science, which provided Chartered Physiotherapy qualifications.
Pete then spent 18 months working as an Orthopaedic physiotherapist at Barnet Hospital whilst continuing his interest in football by working with West Ham United on a part time basis. This was soon to become a full time job as an Academy Physiotherapist responsible for both physiotherapy and sports science disciplines. During this period Pete also worked in a successful private practice. Twelve months on, Pete moved to Leicester City as the Head Academy Physiotherapist responsible for provision of both disciplines, including an increasing role with the 1st team squad. In July 2002, Pete moved to Sunderland as Assistant 1st Team Physiotherapist and took the Head Physiotherapist role on a year later. He held this role in the form of Head Physiotherapist or Head of Sports Medicine for the next 7 years before leaving Sunderland at the end of the 2009-2010 season.
With a strong Sports Science background and well developed Physiotherapy skills Pete has a broad base of knowledge and experience on which to draw with a distinct interest in joint and muscle injuries, spinal pathology and performance enhancement. Pete was involved in the production of the book SAQ for Soccer (Speed, Agility and Quickness) with the pioneer of this form of training Mr Alan Pearson.
