Dr Scott Burne

Doctor Biography:
Dr Scott Burne offers diagnostic and management advice at SSMC for sportspeople, active individuals and others who have exercise-related problems. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians (FACSP), for which he was awarded the College Medal for best performance in his final exams. He also holds a Masters of Sports Medicine (MSpMed) and Bachelor of Science. Dr Burne is currently the Team Doctor for Australian Women’s Basketball (Opals), a position he has held since 2003. Through this work he has been appointed Team Doctor for the 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2006 World Championships (Brazil) and 2004 & 2008 Olympic Games. He is also the current doctor for both the Australian Men's and Australian Women's Water Polo Teams. Dr Burne has worked in a wide variety of other sports, and is very experienced in dealing with sportspeople at all ages. Sports he has covered include NSW Rugby Union (state juniors, Sydney Grade and Colts), Australian Rugby League (Canberra Raiders, Wests Tigers), State Cricket and National Athletics. He worked for 14 years with the Australian Defence Force, including time treating aviators and divers, including their respective special medical issues. Dr Burne has a special interest in treating disorders of the ankle and knee. He has extensive experience with overuse injuries in the lower limb. He regularly performs compartment pressure testing at SSMC. Dr Burne has published articles in leading sports medicine journals on stress injuries in this region. Another special interest of Dr Burne is teaching. He is a Visiting Fellow of the UNSW Sports Medicine Programs, an internationally renowned post-graduate course for doctors. He is also actively involved in education via the Australasian College of Sports Physicians. Dr Burne encourages all individuals with sport and exercise-related problems to attend SSMC for a thorough, individual approach to their management.
