He is an Orthopaedic Surgeon subspecializing in Spine surgery. He obtained his basic medical degree from Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland in 1994. He had varied experience as a junior doctor in general practice, geriatrics, emergency medicine, general surgery, hand surgery and colorectal surgery before embarking on his love of Orthopaedic Surgery. He was admitted as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2002 and in that same year, the Master Of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from the National University of Singapore. At the pinnacle of his training, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2007. He was trained in Spine Surgery at the internationally renowned Wooridul Spine Hospital in Seoul, South Korea in 2008. There he underwent training in Spine Surgery especially Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery including percutaneous techniques. These techniques include annuloplasty, nucleoplasty and percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy(or key-hole discectomy). He maintains close contacts with his Korean counterparts with regular visits to Seoul. He is a member of the Singapore Medical Association, Singapore Orthopaedic Association, AO Spine and the North American Spine Society.
