WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet, hands or ear and addresses the whole person, mind, body and spirit and not just the prevailing symptoms. It can be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium.



Reflexology works on the principle that the entire body is mapped out on both feet. By using the thumb and fingers to apply gentle pressure on reflex points and reflex areas, the entire body can be stimulated to encourage the bodys natural healing abilities. The principle is that the body is divided into 10 energy zones, five on each foot. Energy is constantly flowing through these zones. Each organ and gland in the body is interconnected and therefore as the whole foot is worked the entire bodys energy is encouraged to flow freely dissolving blockages and releasing toxins.



On your first visit a full personal history will be conducted. This will all be discussed on a confidential basis. A treatment lasts approximately 40 – 45 minutes. As it is the feet that are generally treated, you simply remove your shoes and socks. You will lie on a comfortable couch during the treatment. Following the treatment, any significant findings and after-care may be discussed with you.

Reflexology and Pregnancy

Nearly everyone can benifit from having reflexology during pregnancy. It is very successful in the treatment of a wide variety of pregnancy discomforts and conditions. It has been shown that women who have regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy have far shorter labours than those who don’t.

Reflexology during pregnancy can have many benefits, such as, relief from morning sickness, fluid retention, swelling, indigestion, haemorrhoids and constipation. Reflexology during pregnancy prepares the body for labour by balancing all the body systems, especially the endocrine system which governs the labour process. using reflexology can also reduce the need for epidurals.

After birth, Reflexology babies are very calm, breast feed better, and are less prone to colic. Reflexology has also been shown to maintain or increase milk supply as well as helping with postnatal depression and general relaxation.
