Pari Shams graduated with distinction in Medicine, Surgery, clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in London in 1999. She also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with first class honours in the field of Anatomy and Basic Medical Sciences and was awarded the Roger-Warwick Prize for achievement in her BSc. She received several other awards and prizes during her time as a medical student. Miss Shams undertook her early medical training at Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Hammersmith Hospital London, becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2002. Her ophthalmic surgical training was undertaken in London at Moorfields Eye Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital, The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and The Western Eye Hospital where she was trained by many of the best ophthalmologists in the world. She became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London in 2011. Miss Shams’ expertise in functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery, lacrimal and orbital surgery was developed during three years (2010-2014) of advanced sub-speciality surgical training at world leading institutions for oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery; The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, The South Australian Institute of Ophthalmology, Adelaide, Australia, The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, U.S.A. In 2014 Miss Shams was appointed as a full time Consultant to the Adnexal Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital London where she offers a comprehensive service in all aspects of eyelid, lacrimal and orbital disease. Miss Shams lead the development of an entirely new Adnexal service at Moorfields South satellite in Croydon. Through the Moorfields Eye Hospital charity and its generous donors she secured funding for a state of the art endoscopic lacrimal service in 2014. Miss Shams practices as part of a large multidisciplinary team including dermatologists and maxillo-facial surgeons to deliver the highest quality of care, patient experience, outcomes and safety to all her patients. Miss Shams is a full member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS), the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and the International Eye Disease Society ITEDS). She specialises in the treatments of conditions that affect the eyelids, brow, cheek, eye socket and tear duct system. Miss Shams has been actively involved in clinical research over the last 15 years and has contributed numerous peer-reviewed publications to the field of oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital disease. She has presented her research at over 30 national and international conferences and has received numerous awards and prizes. Miss Shams has been involved in teaching and training of physicians and surgeons for the last 10 years, and has been involved in numerous educational courses for GPs, physicians and ophthalmologists. She is currently Clinical and Educational Supervisor and College Tutor for a group of ophthalmic trainees at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
