Rd. Doron Boone is the Medical Director of the Avon Vasectomy Service. He is well-known throughout the region for the excellent service he provides and the outstanding patient feedback he receives. He now dedicates his time to the vasectomy service following his retirement from General Practice in June 2014. Hitherto he was a senior partner at the thriving and excellent medical practice based at St George Health Centre, Bristol.
Dr Boone trained at Guy’s Hospital London where he was awarded first class honours. After his internships at Guys and Greenwich, he completed a surgical training rotation in the Southwest before embarking on his career in General Practice. This included posts in Plymouth and the John Radcliffe, Oxford before taking up his partnership in Bristol in 1984.
Dr Boone has retained his keen interest in Surgery throughout his career, initially as a clinical assistant for Frenchay Healthcare Trust and later as a prolific provider of community Minor Surgery under local anaesthesia, both privately and for the NHS.
As a Vasectomy Surgeon, he trained under Tim Black, Director of Marie Stopes International in 1985 and was the sole provider of the Bristol Marie Stopes service until 1992. Under the NHS fundholding scheme between 1992 and 1999, Dr Boone provided community vasectomy services to many practices in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North Somerset. He has been the Medical Director of the Avon Vasectomy Service since 2001 and a vasectomy surgeon for the MoD.
Dr Boone has performed in the region of 12,000 vasectomy procedures and is the most experienced vasectomy surgeon in the Southwest of England. He is regularly asked to perform vasectomy procedures on fellow medical colleagues such as hospital consultants and other GPs.
Dr Boone regularly audits his work and undergoes annual appraisal through NHS England/Bristol CCG. In May 2013, he was one of the first doctors in the Bristol area to be revalidated by the General Medical Council.
