What are Mini Implants?

Mini implants are small screws measuring 1.8 to 3mm that can be placed in one day for patients. They also act as a tooth root and can retain crowns and bridges. Placing a mini implant is a minimally invasive procedure. The patient’s existing denture is placed on the implants or a new denture is fabricated.  Mini implants do not need as much bone structure as regular implants. Mini implants are also cheaper than regular implants.      

How is the Mini Implant procedure performed?

The dentist drills a hole in the bone of the patient's jaw. The mini implant is screwed into the bone.  The denture is then fitted with metal fasteners that fasten the denture to the ball shape of the head of the mini implant. Mini implants are placed using local anaesthesia or intra-venous sedation. Patients should not feel any pain during the procedure.

They should sleep with their head elevated until the swelling reduces.

An implant is the gold standard where it comes to replacing missing teeth and they look so good that it is very hard to tell the difference between a natural tooth and an implant and crown. An implant is suitable if you have missing teeth and would like a long term solution. The treatment usually takes place over a few appointments. The first appointment would be the consultation, at this stage we will take the appropriate x-rays and CBCT Scans in order to carefully plan the placement of your implant. Some of our patients like to have sedation to help them relax during the implant procedure however this is a personal choice and the procedure can be completed without. If you do opt for sedation we will use this appointment to take your blood pressure to ensure that you are suitable. We will discuss with you at length all other alternative options and provide you with some information that you can take home if you wish.

My wife and l had been going to the Sandilands practice for more than 30years first with his wife in London road then they moved to Deal then back to Dover in fishmongers lane sadly Mr Sandilands. Due to ill health has had to give up the practice so all of his patients will now have to look for a new dental practice. In all the years of being treated by his wife and then Mr Sandilands the treatment, we received from both of them. Was exceptional and first-rate the practice will be missed by all of their patients.

Dr Soin and the team are extremely helpful and I commend them for excellent customer service. As a family-run business, they clearly care about their patients and always take the time to explain the different procedures and present the various options. They are also conscious of the costs of dentistry and wherever possible, ensure I am able to make the maximum claim on my insurance. I've now had a number of procedures including x-rays, cleaning, and filling. All have gone smoothly, and I have had no trouble with my teeth since.

I feel both grateful and blessed to have discovered Dr. Ric’s dental practice. He is an excellent communicator, gentle and a gracious man. This afternoon, along with his dental nurse Huma, he restored my bridge to perfection. I had been told by another dental practitioner it wasn’t possible to re-cement the bridge and that l needed implants! Dr Ric assessed the status of my bridge and told me it could be restored. It was wonderful to be given positive news on the status of my bridge. I had a clear dental payment plan so there were no hidden surprises at the end of treatment. Additionally, l found that Dr Ric and Huma were not only extremely professional but also friendly and relaxed. I highly recommend Herts Dental.
