What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured coverings also known as porcelain laminates used to cover the front of the tooth. They are placed to improve the appearance of smiles by changing the colour, length or size of teeth. The porcelain used to make the veneers is of a high quality and is generally long lasting.

What is the difference between Porcelain Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Porcelain veneers are only used to cosmetically correct the appearance of smiles. They only cover the front portion of the tooth. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth and are used to cover damaged teeth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants. Crowns are thicker than veneers. The patient’s tooth structure does not need much reduction for the placement of a porcelain veneer. A major portion of the tooth structure has to be reduced before the placement of a crown.

How long do Porcelain Veneers last?

Porcelain veneers last between 10 and 20 years. Patients need to follow the dental maintenance care instructions strictly to ensure that their porcelain veneers don’t wear out or chip. Porcelain veneers are the strongest and costliest type of veneer.

Is it painful getting Porcelain Veneers?

The dentist will administer a local anaesthetic before placing porcelain veneers. This is because the teeth of some patients are more sensitive than others. Since very little tooth structure is reduced for placing veneers, patients will not feel pain after veneers are placed. Some patients may feel a little soreness or sensitivity for a few days after the anaesthesia wears off.

Veneers, usually fabricated from porcelain, are a thin, semi-translucent “shell,” custom made to fit precisely over an existing tooth. They are permanently bonded, held in place by a special resin that adheres the back of the veneer to the front of the tooth. The finished result is extremely strong and durable. Though veneers are not suitable for every patient, they are a cosmetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions affecting the front teeth, including: closing diasteman (spaces between the teeth), restoring broken of chipped teeth, covering unsightly, stained or washed out fillings, whitening permanently stained or discolored teeth, correcting uneven or crooked teeth. Benefits: When your smile is disfigured by decay, abrasion, chipping, berakage or inperfect development, our goal is to restore its natural beauty, so you can smile with confidence. At one time, resin fillings of crowns were the only available treatment for the above types of conditions. Veneers can last for years, depending on how well you take care of them. Because veneers are stronger than simple bonding, they are also mere resistant to stains and chippint. However, it is important to maintain regular oral hygiene, to avoid bad habits such as biting nails or chewing ice and to visit us regularly for routine cleaning and exams. These precautions will help ensure that your veneers will last a long time and keep looking as good as new.

Highly recommendKelly, Thailand, 18 02 24

My nearly 3 yr old son fell and 3 weeks later his front tooth was turning gray . It was dying. Since we live and work in Laos where there is essentially no decent dental care, we always have to come to Thailand. Our only experience prior to this for dental work, though, had been at Bumrungrad which is a phenomenal hospital and dental facility. However they aren’t really kid friendly. I knew my 2 year old would scream for the most basic cleaning as he hates strangers grabbing him, let alone a painful procedure. So I looked online for reviews and read one mom’s blog whose situation was the same as ours She said it was truly child friendly and joked that it looked like a cafe. When you arrive you will understand. (There are logos about coffee all over the front for some reason.) But don’t judge a book by its cover. This place was incredible! Families can wait in this large 2 room kid-friendly play area with all kinds of toys and play houses. The air conditioning was blasting which is good because in my son’s situation, he had to be strapped down in a little papoose yet it was still nice and cool for him. We were at the dentist with our 4 kids along with many other kids while a toddler got a root canal, and my 2 older kids (ages 7 + 9) got cleanings, x-rays and sealant applied and yet my kids were completely entertained. No problems at all because time passed quickly. I really appreciated the exam/operating room having glass windows which allowed parents to peak in. This brought such comfort to me and my kids. My husband was allowed to stay with my toddler through the procedure and the whole time they played Peppa Pig on the tv screen in front of him so he was distracted as much as possible. Our total for everyone was $450 USD in Feb 2024. Needless to say we WILL be coming back! Oh! I almost forgot! Since we were coming from out of the country what was amazing was that they texted with me through WhatsApp so I didn’t have to wait for emails. I could go back and forth explaining the issue, sending pics and X-rays we had and the coordinator sent them to the doctor who came in especially for us know a Sunday with just 2 days notice. Highly recommend!
