Orthodontist Consultation
Orthodontics deals with malocclusions (improper bites). The term derives from two Greek words – orthos meaning simple and odus – tooth, so it’s a dentistry specialty dealing with „straightening teeth”. In addition, an orthodontist responsibility is to take care of proper development of chewing organ, which has an impact on human health. An efficient and effective method of treating malocclusions after changing all milk teeth to permanent ones (from 12-13 years of age on) are fixed orthodontic apparatus, which is particularly effective in eliminating non-esthetic crowding or rotation of incisors or bringing displaced teeth back to the alveolar arch. But this treatment is not intended for young people only, as in practice, there’s no age limit for this method. Orthodontic apparatus allow us not only to correct teeth arrangement but also to prepare a patient for prosthetic, periodontic or surgical treatment. The fixed apparatus consists of a set of special locks and rings attached with orthodontic cements to patient’s teeth. They remain on the teeth throughout the treatment, which requires particular care provided by the patient. Such apparatuses are activated during visits appointed every 4- 6 weeks. Once the treatment is completed the apparatus and cement are removed without any damage to the tooth enamel. The orthodontic treatment takes from a few months to two years depending on the level of tooth displacement.
