Professor Dr. Ong Siew Tin is well known as a Clinician and Teacher in the field of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Implantology.
She graduated from University Malaya in 1977 with Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree and served as a Dental Officer under the Ministry of Health. Professor Dr. Ong was awarded the scholarship from JPA to do Fellowship training in London and she passed the Fellowship of FDSRCPS (Glasgow) in 1984. She was listed in the Malaysian Government Gazette as a Specialist in the same year. She served as a Consultant Oral Surgeon until 1991 when she decided to accept the appointment as a Lecturer at Department of Oral Maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) in Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. In 2003 she was appointed as Professor in OMFS. At the same time, she was actively engaged in research, clinical work and teaching of dental implantology and she was appointed the opinion leader of the Ankylos Implant System. She held the position of the Head of OMFS Department for several years and was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry in the year 2006. She received the Excellent Service Award of University Malaya in 1999 and 2006 respectively.
For her outstanding professional services she received Honorary Fellowship International College of Dentists (FICD) in 1996, Fellowship Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (FAMM) and Fellowship of the International College for Continuing Dental Education (FICCDE) in 2003.
