The clinic was clean and organised

4 50 Dentist Consultation

Oaklawn was my choice because they had the highest ratings on the website. It took 40 minutes to complete my dental examination. I was told I could contact them with any problems.

The clinic was clean and organised. Pretty likely to recommend them.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is essentially a false tooth and is used to replace missing teeth. A bridge is attached to the two other teeth around the space – “bridging” them together. A bridge is ideal when the supporting teeth surrounding the gap are strong and healthy.

Tax relief can be claimed on Bridges and crowns.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth (also known as third molars) usually erupt between the ages of 18 and 23. If these impacted teeth are in an abnormal position, food and bacteria can collect under the gum causing a local infection, pain, swelling and bad breath. If these symptoms are severe and frequent then the wisdom teeth need to be removed.

Most wisdom tooth extractions can be performed in our surgery under local anaesthetic. If general anaesthetic or hospitalisation is needed there is a number of specialists to whom we can refer.

Fillings

Essentially, there are two types of filling: silver amalgam and composite (white) fillings.

Amalgam has been in use for about 150 years and is a safe and very durable material.

Composites are in use now for about 50 years and the material and the technique are improving all the time, so that they are now nearly as durable and long-lasting as amalgam. Composite is the material of choice for filling front teeth and is becoming more and more common in back teeth as well.

Normally amalgam is the first choice filling material in back teeth as it is stronger, more durable and more economical than composite, but composite is of course better-looking and even indistinguishable very often from the natural tooth substance.

Root canals

The soft tissue at the core of a tooth is called the pulp, made up of nerve, blood vessels and other tissue. Patients normally refer to this as the “nerve”. The health of the pulp can be damaged by deep decay, fracture of the tooth or trauma or even wear and tear over many years. If it is damaged sufficiently it can become very painful or develop an abscess.

At this stage only root canal treatment will save the tooth. Root canal treatment involves removing damaged or dead nerves and blood vessels in the root of the tooth and cleaning and disinfecting the roots. The space left is then filled with a material that seals the tooth and keeps it functioning as before. However in many cases the teeth are weakened because there is no longer a living “nerve” or pulp in them and a crown is often advised to protect the teeth.

TMJ - Temporomandibular Joint Treatment

Do you suffer from headaches, jaw pain, or suffer from teeth grinding? These are all symptoms that can be easily resolved at Noel Creaner’s surgery. Many patients come to us having suffered from headaches for years, taking pain killers with no lasting relief and not realising that the problem is dental in origin. Often many of these problems arise from irregularity of your bite which puts stress and tension in surrounding muscles.

Your treatment may include simple bite adjustment or a night time acrylic splint, and in some cases you may need crowns and veneers to re-establish a new bite.

Cost varies depending on number of treatments required.

Veneers

Veneers are thin wafers of porcelain which are bonded on to the front surface of teeth to restore or improve the appearance of worn, chipped or discoloured teeth or to reshape them if the teeth are spaced or considered too small.
