These are permanent as the brackets that hold the wire are glued to the front of the teeth. These brackets can be made from different materials. Metal brackets (stainless steel, titanium, gold) are esthetically less desirable. Or they can be tooth-colored, made from plastic or porcelain. In some cases, brackets may be put on the back of the teeth (lingual appliances).
