What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured coverings also known as porcelain laminates used to cover the front of the tooth. They are placed to improve the appearance of smiles by changing the colour, length or size of teeth. The porcelain used to make the veneers is of a high quality and is generally long lasting.

What is the difference between Porcelain Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Porcelain veneers are only used to cosmetically correct the appearance of smiles. They only cover the front portion of the tooth. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth and are used to cover damaged teeth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants. Crowns are thicker than veneers. The patient’s tooth structure does not need much reduction for the placement of a porcelain veneer. A major portion of the tooth structure has to be reduced before the placement of a crown.

How long do Porcelain Veneers last?

Porcelain veneers last between 10 and 20 years. Patients need to follow the dental maintenance care instructions strictly to ensure that their porcelain veneers don’t wear out or chip. Porcelain veneers are the strongest and costliest type of veneer.

Is it painful getting Porcelain Veneers?

The dentist will administer a local anaesthetic before placing porcelain veneers. This is because the teeth of some patients are more sensitive than others. Since very little tooth structure is reduced for placing veneers, patients will not feel pain after veneers are placed. Some patients may feel a little soreness or sensitivity for a few days after the anaesthesia wears off.

I could go on and on about how great this place is and how they have changed my lifeJane, Canada, 11 01 21

I had the best experience at this office! I am deathly afraid of going to the dentist, however, right from my initial call to the office(which took me months to even pick up the phone and make the call) I got this feeling of calmness just by how the one receptionist answered my call and helped me to book the type of appointment I needed!! She answered all my questions, and to be totally honest, for the first time ever in my years of dreading going to the dentist, when I hung up the phone from that call....wait for it.... Wait for it... I was actually excited and almost looking forward to my visit to this clinic!!! I know it sounds hoaky but I am 100% saying that that is how she made me feel when I got off the darn phone!!! So 2 weeks go by and my appointment date arrives. Well, I thought my initial call was good but I had no idea how darn awesome everyone there was! Dr. Konotopetz is simply put, an amazingly caring, knowledgeable, pain-free dentists. He did an extremely thorough exam and taught me things about my teeth that I had no idea about, he then has his assistant take some x-rays and the hygienists did a wonderful pain-free cleaning (yes, you heard me right folks PAIN-FREE)! Then, to top it off, at the end of my appointment, Lisa, the receptionist that took my initial call, gave me a beautiful Signature Smiles coffee mug with this gorgeous bouquet of flowers in them from Wascana Floral Shop and thanked me for coming in and choosing them to be my team of dental health care providers!!! I told Lisa she pretty much had me at hello lol!!! The following week, the doctor had me come back to the clinic where he discussed with me all the results of my x-rays and the things he saw at my first appointment with him. He actually took the time to look at all the things going on in my mouth (remember people, I have a deathly fear of going... no wait... I had a deathly fear of going to the dentist so the teeth I do have are... Well, let's just say they are not the best)! However, Dr Konotopetz did not make me feel bad, or shame me, or make me feel embarrassed for having bad teeth but instead complimented me on some of the positive things he noticed that I had been doing to try to maintain what I have left!! He then "explained to me some of the concerns he had seen (he explained, he didn't tell me) with my teeth, gums and some bite issues I have without me even realizing that my clenching and sore achy jaw I have every morning is compromising the teeth I have left!!! He then advised me of different treatment options that would be available to me that I CAN CHOOSE to help get things back on track!!! I could go on and on about how great this place is and how they have changed my life but y'all need to experience it for yourselves! I tell ya this guy is a godsend, he is genuine, he is a MUST SEE! THANK YOU DR KONOTOPETZ for all you have done for me and THANK YOU ALSO TO YOUR EXCELLENT EXCELLENT STAFF! You have all changed my life.
