Extractions

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Removal of a wisdom teeth is a very common procedure. Removal of troublesome wisdom teeth should usually be done as soon as possible before the problems become worse. If your wisdom teeth are likely to be difficult or complicated to remove, your dentist may refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Due to the shape and position of some wisdom teeth and the shape of the jaws, it may be preferable in such cases for an oral surgeon to remove the teeth. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is specially trained in surgery of the mouth, teeth and jaws.

Root canals

Root Canal Treatment involves removing the pulp (called the nerve) from within the tooth and then sealing the cavity. The pulp lies in the tooth centre within a thin canal extending from the crown of the tooth through to the tip of the root. Root canal treatment may be required when the tooth becomes painful, tender to bite on, is particularly sensitive to heat and cold, or may have an obvious large cavity, which extends into the nerve of the tooth, or suddenly becomes dark in colour. Sometimes the pulp of the tooth will die without causing any noticeable pain. Other times the face may become swollen.

Sedation for dental treatments

Sleep Dentistry eliminates the awareness, sights, sounds, smells, tastes and pain of needles, instruments and drilling. It also eliminates the boredom of long or complex sessions and enables you to relax. Sleep Dentistry eliminates fears, anxiety and discomfort. Sleep Dentistry enables busy people to have multiple procedures and long sessions done in a single sitting. Sleep Dentistry allows your dental procedures to be more comfortable than you ever thought possible.

Teeth Whitening

Two systems of professional tooth whitening are available at our surgery: in-chair whitening and home whitening. In-chair whitening involves the application of a gel containing hydrogen peroxide to the tooth surface which is subsequently activated by a bright light. The entire procedure takes about an hour. The results are immediate. It is sometimes recommended that in-chair whitening is followed up by home whitening. Home whitening involves the wearing of the whitening gel in custom made mouthguards for an half an hour during the day. Results take one to two weeks but some patients can require longer, even up to six months to remove stains or other heavy discolouration. Following any professional treatment, your teeth will always remain lighter than they were originally, but to keep them looking their best, occasional (12-24 monthly) touch ups will be required. This involves a few applications of home whitening.
