Dr Ailin Teo graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (with Honours) in 2003. Since then, she has been practicing as a dentist in Geelong. She previously worked with the late Dr Dennis Knowles, who unfortunately passed away from cancer in 2008. Dr Teo says of her mentor:
“He was a brilliant gentleman, whom I dearly miss. I greatly respect and will always hold the highest opinion of him. He was an extraordinary clinical mentor.”
In 2008 she opened Ailin Teo Dental Surgery, supported by “a wonderful team of staff.” Her team works together to provide dental services to the Geelong community, in a comfortable, warm, friendly, caring, and loving environment.
“It is a joy and it is a privilege. I love using my hands, but more importantly I love getting things as perfect as possible; the fine detail work under magnification. I also enjoy interacting with my patients, and that’s why I’m a general practitioner and not a specialist. As a general practitioner, you get to do a bit of everything. You get that variety.
You get to alleviate people from their pain when they meet you, and also form relationships with patients. I’ve seen children growing up, people getting married, people bringing their first child in and then their second child in… It is lovely to be able to stay in touch with the community. That’s what I love about practicing dentistry.”
Dr Teo regularly attends continuing education courses, to provide herself with up-to-date knowledge about all aspects of dentistry such as those relating to dental ceramics, crowns and bridges, endodontics (root canal therapy), and complex treatment procedures. She is quick to adopt the latest clinical techniques, which come strongly supported by clinical and scientific literature.
Dr Teo is active within the dental profession, and was the Secretary of the Geelong Branch of the Australian Dental Association in 2009 and 2010.
At Ailin Teo Dental Surgery, patients are well-informed about their dental health, its effect on their general health, and what treatment options are available to them. Dr Teo likes to spend time with new and current patients showing them what state their teeth and gums are in, what’s happened in the past and what she and her team can do to help them prevent the same diseases from happening in the future.
