Gained his undergraduate degree (BDSc) in dentistry at the University of Melbourne in 1995. Following graduation he entered the RAAF as a Dental Officer after which he spent 6 years in general practice in Geelong. He then completed a 3 year full time specialist degree in Prosthodontics (DCD) at the University of Melbourne in 2007 and a further 3 years full time specialist training in Periodontics at the University of Minnesota, USA. His research at the University of Minnesota focused on the effect of surgical experience and surgical guide design on the accuracy of dental implant surgery. He has published research in the fields of Prosthodontics and Periodontology in international journals.
