Breast Augmentation
Breast enlargement, or augmentation mammoplasty, enhances the body contour of a woman who is unhappy with her breast size. It may also be used to correct volume loss after pregnancy, or to help balance breast size asymmetries, as well as a reconstructive technique following other breast surgery. An implant (prosthesis) may be placed through an incision, under the breast tissue or under the muscle or through an incision in the bellybutton region. The incision can be made under the breast, around the nipple, in the armpit, or in the bellybutton.
There are two main types of breast implants to choose from. One is the saline implant which is composed of an outer silicone shell that the surgeon fills with saline (salt water) at the time of the surgery. The second type of implant is the more popular silicone or gel implant that are pre-filled silicone gel implants that feel and look more natural in most patients.
The placement technique (under the fascia, or muscle or over the muscle), and the size of the implants are determined at the time of consultation to coincide with your desired look and in proportion to your build and body type.
