Breast augmentation involves making a small incision to insert an implant into the breast area in order to enlarge the breast. The surgery is commonly performed on an outpatient basis under a general anesthesia. Insertion location: There are several possible locations for the small incision that will be used for inserting the breast implant. The most frequently utilized incisions are inframammary and periareolar. The inframammary technique utilizes an incision made hidden along the fold at the lower portion of the breast. The periareolar technique involves an incision hidden along the border of the areola. Additional techniques include axillary (in the armpit) or transumbilical, although these techniques have different risk profiles.

Facelift

A facelift commonly involves making small incisions just inside the hairline, following the contour in front of the ear, and continuing under the earlobe to the backside of the ear and to the lower scalp. The underlying tissue is repositioned, excess fat is removed, the skin is repositioned, and any excess skin is removed. If the neckline requires attention, an additional incision is made under the chin and the same procedure is again followed. Fine stitches are used to close the incisions and to reduce any chance of scarring.

Liposuction is commonly used to remove the excess fat and some soft breast tissue for a male breast reduction procedure. The more firm and fibrous breast tissue beneath the nipple must be surgically excised. Performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, incisions are made along the lower half of the areola. After surgery, a compression garment is worn on the chest for about two weeks to minimize swelling. Normal exercise may be resumed in about 3-4 weeks. After 4 weeks, it is recommended that a latex sport top such as Under Armor be worn until all signs of bruising and/or swelling have dissipated.
