McTimoney-Corley for my lower back. The treatment was the best I have ever had to relieve excruciating pain in my lower back. I have a long history of lower back pain and I am sometimes disabled because of it. I was visiting Scotland and my back was very bad due to the travel and hiking. I took one session and didn't have any pain for 6-8 months following. Exceptional!
The first session went very well. I was advised which other treatments might be useful for me before the treatment started, so felt I had been given other options to consider. I was given plenty of information about what was happening during the session, but not overwhelmed by it. Early days yet, but feeling some benefit already.
Shian trained under her father, Hugh Corley, at the Whitley School of Chiropractic. She is an experienced and highly skilled Chiropractor who has been practising in Scotland since 1988.
Besides having been at the Whole Works since it opened in 1992, Shian is also involved in post-graduate training at the McTimoney Chiropractic College in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Shian has a particular interest in the often subtle difference between illness and health and in how we can heal increasing our awareness of our body and how we use it.
She enjoys working both with patients who have acute problems and those who require a more lengthy healing process.
Shians approach is always practical and aimed at meeting the specific needs of the individual.
UKCP registered Tara Rokpa Psychotherapist, Individual member BACP, Certificate of Education, London
I am a UKCP registered Tara Rokpa psychotherapist who has been in practice for over 10 years.
As well as seeing people individually I also facilitate Tara Rokpa groups all over Europe. This contributes to widening my experience of diversity and cultural differences.
I have studied Buddhist philosophy and practiced meditation for many years at Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Dumfriesshire. I acknowledge the transformative effect this continues to have on my life. I feel the work I have done to form a healthier relationship with myself is a key to my work with others.
BA Hons in History
Diploma in Gestalt Therapy
I have been a practising therapist since 1998 and currently work for two counselling agencies in Edinburgh as well as having a private practice at the Whole Works. I have also been teaching on a number of counselling courses since 2002.
I work with individuals on a wide range of issues and I am happy to see couples who want to develop or clarify their relationship. I am also available to provide supervision for therapy practitioners.
As well as attending to the distress of my clients, I am interested in how we can simplify and enrich our everyday interactions and circumstances. Gestalt therapy can provide opportunities to bring greater awareness to ourselves and our relationships. By learning to combine sensitivity with directness we can becoming less constrained by the patterns and habits that we carry from the past. With that awareness we can go on to create more sustainable and satisfying ways of living and relating to others.
