Dr Dower has completed two international fellowships in microsurgery. The first at St Thomas’ hospital in London, involving mainly breast reconstruction. The second, an advanced microsurgery fellowship in Taiwan, dealing with all aspects of microsurgical reconstruction including complex head and neck reconstruction and treatment for lymphedema. This was followed by an observorship in implant breast reconstruction at the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. During his specialist training, the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa (APRSSA), awarded Dr Dower Best Clinical Paper in 2009 and 2011, as well as Best Publication in 2012. He has also presented at the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) Annual Meeting in 2014, on breast reconstruction. Dr Dower is a Member of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa (APRSSA) and is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He holds GMC registration and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons England (MRCS Eng).
