What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, also known as varicosities, are thick and dark blue or purple veins that are seen in the lower limbs of patients. They are caused by damaged or poorly functioning valves within the veins. Surgical and nonsurgical procedures are used to treat varicose veins.

How are Varicose Veins treated?

Varicose veins are treated by making patients wear compression stockings, by helping them to lose weight, by sclerotherapy, injecting  a chemical into the vein to make it collapse, laser and radiofrequency assisted procedures, phlebectomy procedures, where veins are removed by making small cuts on the surface of the skin and by surgical procedures involving tying or stripping of the varicose veins.

Are Varicose Vein treatments painful?

Minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins are performed after administering local anaesthetic to the treatment area. Surgical varicose vein removal procedures are performed under general anaesthesia. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedures.

When will I recover after Varicose Veins treatments?

It takes about five weeks to completely recover from minimally invasive and surgical varicose vein treatments.

What care is required after Varicose Vein treatments?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should wear compression stockings to prevent blood clots. They should not wear tight clothing or high heeled shoes. They should elevate their legs while sitting. They should not smoke or drink alcohol. They should not gain weight after varicose vein treatments. They should avoid strenuous exercise and lifting heavy objects for at least two weeks.

Veins Treatment
Microsclerotherapy is a technique of injecting thread or spider veins with a special substance known as a "sclerosant", usually a solution called sodium tetradecyl sulphate that causes swelling in the veins wall. If the vein is small enough, the swelling will destroy the vein over several weeks, making it much less noticeable or even invisible. Microsclerotherapy is normally used for the treatment of leg thread veins and is rarely used for the treatment of facial veins, where laser treatments are often favoured, owing to the small possibility of scarring that can occur. During the consultation an ultrasound doppler is done to make sure there is no back flow from the veins which may result in an unsatisfactory treatment.  There is usually minimal or no discomfort during microsclerotherapy injections due to the size of the needle and the superficial injection technique. Following injections compression stocking are applied which may be worn for three weeks post procedure to help assist shrinkage of the thread veins. A follow up is booked 2 weeks from the procedure. During this session the are might be treated again, either with the sclerosant or with Laser. The final follow up is booked 8 weeks from the first procedure to evaluate the final result.

Laser Hair Removal
Laser Hair Removal is a procedure by which unwanted hair from the body is removed utilizing GentleLASE Pro by Candela Laser Corporation. In the procedure, the Doctor distributes the light of an alexandrite long pulse (755nm) Laser onto the skin. Laser Hair Removal results in permanent hair reduction, reducing the volume of hair and thinning out the texture. Both men and women seek the above mentioned services to have superfluous or unwanted hair removed. Laser hair removal can be done on any part of the body, from the chin, lip, cheeks, sideburns, neck, ears all the way to the hands and toes. The causes of excessive hair growth patterns are varied. Those with which people are best acquainted include: hereditary, glandular/hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, reactions to certain medicines, normal aging process, excessive waxing, tweezing and other temporary methods of hair removal (cream/depilatories) amongst others. In order to control abnormal hair growth and patterns, it may be important to control one's hormones and the production of hair caused by a hormonal imbalance. Several (repeated) treatments are generally necessary to satisfy the patient/client's desire for hair removal. On the body one would need between 6-8 sessions. On the face it tends to take slightly longer, statistically between 12-15 sessions. The darker and thicker the hair, the more effective the treatment will be. Laser does not work on white or very light hairs.  . Book a consultation today by e-mailing us on .
