I had a deep face and neck lift and upper blepharoplasty with Dr. Soner in October 2023, and it's been a game-changer for me. For over 19 years, I felt very self-conscious about my neck and side profile, after a hurtful comment from a so-called friend. Then, over time, as I gained and lost weight, and got older - it got even worse. I'd avoid having my picture taken and constantly tried to hide my neck with my hand or anything I could find. I even dreaded my husband seeing me from that angle after 36 years together! After significant research and spending time speaking with my lovely coordinator ‘Penny’ I had already chosen Dr Soner, but I so was nervous about going through with the procedure, especially since it was outside of the UK. Our surgeons prefer sleeve over bypass surgery unless there is a medical reason you cannot have the sleeve. Gastric Bypass essentially bypasses the stomach and a new pouch is created to act in place as your stomach. Due to this, you will be required to take multivitamins for life as the new pouch may not absorb the nutrients from food correctly. Bypass is a much longer operation than the sleeve and requires more recovery time after surgery.

I booked my surgery, and around four months ago, I did my gastric sleeve and lost 35 kg. That is an unbelievable victory, and my heart complication is very much less now.

This surgery consists of two surgical techniques. In the first stage, the stomach volume is brought to a smaller size from the midline of the tube and the most restrictive effect is seen. In the second stage, the small intestine is counted 150-200 cm from the beginning of the small intestine and the small intestine is combined with the newly formed small stomach so that we have seen in this surgical technique the absorption-limiting effect. It is an effective technique that is preferred also for metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure which are caused by excessive weight gain while the patient has regular and adequate weight loss after surgery.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is the most commonly used method in the treatment of obesity. The operation allows the stomach to take the shape of a tubular tube extending through the small curvature. The avarage volüme of the stomach is about 150 – 200 cc. There are 2 weight loss mechanism in this surgery; restrictive and hormonal effect. Feeling of satiety with little food after vertically collapsing the stomach is a restrictive effect. The hormonal effect is the loss of appetite with reduced release of the ghrelin hormone produced by the cells in the fundus, which is the upper part of the stomach. After the operation, the patients lose about 65-70% of their excess weight in about 12 months.One of the greatest advantages of operation of the tube gastric (sleeve gastrectomy) is that there is no problem in the intake of vitamins and minerals since there is no operation that affects the absorption.
