Erick attained his degree in Economics and English Language before obtaining a scholarship for his Masters degree in Speech Pathology from La Trobe University (Melbourne) in 2003, renowned for one of the best health sciences studies. Erick honed his clinical skills in assessment and treatment of persons with various speech, language, voice, fluency and swallowing disorders during his foundational years in the Mt Elizabeth Hospital. During this period, he became certified in performing objective instrumental assessment procedures such as the Videofluroscopy (VFS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES).

Erick worked primarily with neuro-rehabilitation patients and also accumulated extensive experience working with patients presenting with various etiologies. His work in the hospital also included management of critically ill patients in the ICU and working with tracheostomized patients with medical complications.

In addition to clinical work, Erick is also actively involved in providing voice training and swallowing workshops for healthcare and corporate professionals. Adding colour to his clinical life, Erick worked as a professional radio station DJ with Mediacorp Radio’s Y.E.S.93.3fm and continues to be a musician and backing vocal, hitting not only the stages in a handful of clubs at Clarke Quay, a popular spot for live music, but also appearing on TV programs on Singapore’s national TV stations.

Erick currently lectures at UniSIM (SIM University) in phonetics and phonology. He mentored the Master of Speech Pathology course in the National University of Singapore (NUS), and served as adjunct lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) teaching oral communication skills, in addition to writing the course curriculum for trainee teachers on voice management in the National Institute of Education (NIE, NTU) and teaching a course on phonetics there.

Dr Oo also holds a Masters in Science awarded for his time spent on research in the field of tissue engineering. His other clinical interest is in minimally invasive surgery of the hand and upper limb especially wrist arthroscopy and endoscopic peripheralnerve surgery.His research interestis in the field of nerve regeneration and bioelectrics and is actively involvedwith the SINAPSE scientists (Singapore institute of Neurotechnology). Dr Tanhas been an invited speaker for local, regional and international meetings andcontinues to publish both his clinical and basic science research.
