Dr. Deep Goel is an alumnus of the prestigious Kasturba Gandhi Medical College Mangalore which is an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence for Medical Education. He was recipient of the Gold Medal for academics during his MBBS.

Passionately interested in surgery, he joined the surgery training residency programme at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi in 1992.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital was actively absorbing the latest medical developments from all over the globe and this exposed Dr. Deep Goel to the fascinating world of Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) while he qualified with the Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) in 1996. His passionate zeal for MAS took him to some of the best centres of surgical training in the world.

He secured a specialist surgery registrar-ship at the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery at the Royal London Hospital, UK. This appointment is fiercely competed for amongst surgeons from all over the world and Dr. Goel’s selection was very special. His enthusiasm and zeal endeavored him to his peers and patients and his knowledge and surgical skills made him a much sought after registrar with some of the Doyens of Surgery at the Royal London Hospital.

In 1998, he was granted the fellowship of the Royal College Surgeons of England. Fellowship at the Mount Sinai Medical School, New York USA and Bagatelle Hospital, Bourdex, France followed and laid a solid foundation for his consultant practice of the future.

With an extensive experience and association of over 700 bariatric (weight loss) operations, he has one of the largest single surgeon experience of Bariatric operation in the subcontinent.

He is currently the Director of Surgical Gastroenterology, Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery at the BLK Super Speciality hospital, New Delhi, India. This is best modern 650 bed super specialty facility with a large cancer centre where advanced minimal access technique is being used for the betterment of patients suffering with GI Cancers and morbid obesity.

Dr. Ravindra Vats graduated from the Devi Ahilya Bai University, Indore Madhya Pradesh India in 1998.

Enamored by surgery even as a diligent young medical student he single mindedly set out to pursue a career in surgery. He succeeded in securing a highly competitive and sought after surgical residency seat at one of the oldest most respected universities in India at Allahabad. During his post graduation he endeared himself to his Professors and other faculty with his honest dedication and uncanny surgical sense. While at Allahabad University he stood well above his peers and was honored by a special Health Ministers award in recognition of his exceptional Medical talent. Armed with a Masters in Surgery in 2004 he undertook higher training in GI and GI onco surgery at the Army R R Hospital New Delhi India.

Soon after he chose to gain experience in advanced Laparoscopic Surgery under the tutelage of Dr Deep Goel at the department of MIS Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric & GI Onco Surgery at Artemis Health Institute Gurgaon Haryana. Much to the delight of his mentor he proved to be a quick learner and soon became proficient in Bariatric surgery and others advanced laparoscopic procedures. He is keenly interested in Metabolic Surgery and travelled to a centre of excellence at Hyderabad where he developed skills in duodeno jejunal-ilial interposition. He is a teaching faculty for Ethicon Suture Practicum and also for many institutional programs of Basic & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery.

He has attended many national and international conferences to keep abreast with current developments in Bariatric and GI Surgery. He has a number of presentations to his credit. He has co authored a chapter on Colorectal Surgery in the textbook of Minimal Access Surgery published by the Indian Association of Gastro Endo Surgery (IAGES). He is presently a Senior Consultant in the GI Surgery team at Centre for Digestive Liver Diseases BLK Super Speciality Hospital New Delhi.

Dr. Virandera Pal Bhalla graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune in Dec 1975. AFMC is an internationally acclaimed centre for medical learning and admission to the undergraduate MBBS course is highly competitive. After graduation he was commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) and gained valuable experience in Areo Space Medicine. In 1982 he was selected for the post graduate surgical residency program at AFMC. Soon after receiving a Masters in Surgery he served as consultant in Surgery in major service hospitals at Jorhat and Lucknow where he honed his skills in trauma surgery.

He was selected for super specialization in Gastro Intestinal Surgery and spent three invaluable years training in GI Surgery and Liver Transplantation at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi as a specialist registrar from 1991-1993. It was here he became proficient in complex abdominal surgery for GI Cancers. He developed a keen interest in Portal Hypertension and has accumulated a large experience of almost 100 shunt operations after leaving the AIIMS.

From AIIMS New Delhi he moved to a higher academic platform as first Reader and later Professor of Surgery AFMC Pune. He spent 9 years on the faculty at AFMC and helped mentor an entire generation of surgeons who occupy positions of eminence across the globe. An achievement of which he is justifiably proud. In the years before he took an early release from the IAF he held the appointment of Senior Adviser and Professor in Surgery, & GI Surgery at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, (RGUHS), Karnataka.

During his tenure at AFMC Pune and Command Hospital Bangalore and RGUHS he was a recognized teacher and examiner for undergraduate and post graduate students in many universities. He has pioneered Experimental Liver Transplantation in the Armed Forces and done extensive research on the relationship of Portal Hypertension and Biliary Obstruction. He has over fifty publications in national and international journals. He has travelled extensively to some of the best centers in the world and has been a visiting fellow at the St. Marks Hospital for Colon & Rectal diseases London U.K and centre for Liver Transplantation at the Kaohsiung Memorial Hospital Taiwan. He was awarded the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons Chicago (USA) in 1996 and is a Fellow of the Association of Surgeons of India.

He is currently a Senior consultant in Surgical Gastroenterology and the Director of the Centre of Digestive Liver Diseases B.L.K Super Speciality Hospital and leads an exceptionally talented surgical care team delivering cutting edge conventional and minimal access laparoscopic treatments for the entire spectrum of abdominal diseases.
