He did his masters degree in surgery from the B J Medical College in Poona in 1982. He was resident surgeon at Sir Harkisondas Hospital in Mumbai from 1983 to 1985. From 1985 to 1987 he did post graduate training in Pancreatico Biliary and Gastrointestinal Surgery at St. Vincents Hospital in Sydney. This was followed by advanced training in Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, in 1992. His principal interests are Minimal Access ( Laparoscopic) Surgery of the Pancreatico Biliary System and Gastrointestinal Tract. He has also major interest in Gastrointestinal Cancer Surgery. He is a teacher for the Diplomat of the National Board For Post Graduates in Gastro Intestinal Surgery at the Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. He has over 30 publications in national and international journals and has conducted Laparoscopic workshops at various centers in India. He is on the faculty of the Ethicon and Karl Storz Centers in Mumbai, for training in Minimal Access Surgery. He is a founder member of the Indian Association Of Gastro Endoscopic Surgeons (IAGES) and is on the editorial board of its journal, “The Journal Of Minimal Access Surgery.” he is also a member of the Indian Societies Of Gastroenterology (ISG), Indian Association Of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG), and a member of the Australian society of Gastroenterology.
