Upon completing his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Simon Chow was accepted to the prestigious University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine to pursue his M.D. degree. Thereafter, he completed his residency for General Surgery at McGill University. During this time, he was accepted into the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s Clinician Investigator Program.
From his contributions to research, he completed a thesis-based Master of Science degree, studying the link between inflammation and cancer. He was selected for a competitive, accredited post-graduate fellowship program for bariatric surgery with Legacy Health and Providence Health organizations in Portland, Oregon, where world-renowned bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgeons mentored him. During this time, he had the opportunity to further refine his complex surgical and diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopic skills. He also conducted further bariatric research projects.
He has authored numerous medical publications and presented his research findings at countless national and international conferences. He is board certified for general and bariatric surgery in Canada (FRCSC, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada) and the United States (FACS, Fellow of American College of Surgeons). He is an active member in good standing with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic surgeons, Canadian Association of General Surgeons, and American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Chow joined Weight Loss Surgery in 2015 and is a “NON-PARTICIPATING PHYSICIAN” within the meaning of the health act (section L.R.Q., c. A-29 of the Health Insurance Act of Quebec). Dr. Chow offers sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and revisional bariatric surgery, such as conversion of adjustable gastric band to sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass. He also offers general surgery procedures including laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder removal), and abdominal wall/inguinal hernia repairs.
