Dr. Chan qualified in Dentistry (BDS) from University of Malaya, Malaysia, in 2001. He worked as a private general practitioner in a group practice till 2003, when he passed and became a Member of the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MFDRCSI). He applied and was given the opportunity to further his surgical training and admitted into the Masters programme in University of Malaya in 2003. With the Membership obtained, he was exempted to sit for the first part of the Masters examination. Since he has to work part-time to support his studies, he and his wife, Dr Leong Bee Lan, decided to open a private clinic, Gentle Care Dental Surgery, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, in 2004. He has his training at the hospital in the mornig till evening, and working at his clinic thereafter till night time. During that period, he also went to sit for his Fellowship examination in Australia, acquired and passed the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS), in 2006.
At the end of his 3 and 1/2 years of studies, he has further enhanced his surgical training from Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery units, Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, as well as from Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Finally, in 2007, he was then awarded the Master of Clinical Dentistry in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (MClinDent). During that same year, July, 2007, he applied and was given the chance to further his knowledge in Medicine from his alma mater and obtained his Medical degree (MBBS), in 2010.
During his specialist training, Dr Chan was an active member of the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) as well as the Malaysian Private Dental Practitioners Association (MPDPA). He was subsequetly admitted as a Fellow of the International College of Continuing Dental Education (FICCDE) and Fellow of the Academy Dental Interntional (FADI) in 2003 and 2005 respectively. Currently, he maintains his private practice and is also a part-time lecturer in the Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Malaya. He also does free-lancing for surgical procedures around the Klang Valley.
His life philosophies are simple. Cherish the life to the fullest; take care of your family; be grateful to your teachers; be modest and humble always; learning is life-long process, if willing, just do it; honesty and truthfulness to your patients, as if they are your family, as it hurts to see patients being neglected, conned or overcharged by unscrupulous dentist/doctor/surgeon or anyone in fact.
