'Talk Therapy' encourages greater self awareness and reinforces the healthy aspects of you also.Both Counselling and Psychotherapy involve the provision of listening, evaluating and providing professional assistance to people who are experiencing personal issues, in order to help alleviate those difficulties. Counselling tends to deal with more immediate issues that may have arisen recently, e.g. bereavement or relationship breakdown. Psychotherapy tends to deal with deeper, more long-term issues that can perhaps be rooted in the past and have links with feelings, behaviours and issues that are on going. Patterns can be developed over time as a way of coping and by becoming more aware of these patterns that are perhaps no longer useful, change becomes possible. The terms for the counselling and psychotherapy approaches overlap and are often used interchangeably. I have experience working with many mental health issues, and particular experience working with people with eating disroders, and addiction. If you would like to meet with me for a consultation, to talk through your issue, and to have an opportunity for you to consider the way I work and whether you think it will be suitable for you, then see my contact details. Consultations last 50 minutes, as do all sessions. If you choose to continue working with me we will discuss fees and commitment at this consultation.

I provide a safe, confidential space in which to explore the issues you are going through, and work towards finding a solution and a new way of understanding yourself and living your life. I work at the clients pace and trust that through talking and listening new ways of managing problems and new ways of understanding why we do what we do can be found.

I specialise in alcohol dependency and have a wide range of skills suitable for this difficult problem. The medium-term goal of therapy is to achieve a year's sustained abstinence from alcohol and other drugs.
